Paving the way
Liz and I had at a bit of fun last Thursday while on our way to a speaking engagement in Bismarck. For those of you who are not familiar with ND, it is about 100 miles south of Minot. We had been invited to speak at a Christian Woman's group and had left in plenty of time to shop for buttons along the way. We had been given a lead on a button stash at a variety storeand decided to stop in the small town to see what we could find. There we met Joe who drove a hard bargain for about 20 pounds of buttons in old jars. Not wanting the jars, we dumped them all into a cardboard box and got almost across Main street when the bottom of the box gave way, leaving buttons scattered across the pavement. Joe loaned us a broom and dust pan. While gathering up our buttons, two very nice ladies stopped to chat with us about how we came to be on our hands and knees in the street, sweeping up buttons.
I am anxious to start sorting this box. I know there is a rare copper button and amazing Bakelite button with a metal Scottish thistle. The rest I don't remember but will have the joy of discovering. That, and picking out the gravel.....
