International Woman's Day-Joyce Hendrickson
I would like to take some time today to pay tribute to a remarkable woman by the name of Joyce Hendrickson. Joyce passed away at the age of 80 in January. Joyce gave Liz and I the start to our vintage and antique button inventory when she sold us a three generation collection of buttons. She didn't just sell them to us, she made us promise that we would always uphold the integrity of a button by not cutting off shanks or gluing them on to projects. Later, after we proved ourselves, she sold us our most prized buttons, her artist buttons. Joyce was a collector, but foremost, she was an artist. Stated so well in her obituary, "Art was not a job for Joyce. It was her passion. It was her life. Art brought not only color to her life but friendships." I have always thought that no one succeeds in life without the help of others. This is so true for our business and the great gift of art and mentoring from Joyce.
For those women in our lives who have inspired and assisted us along the way, it is a day to celebrate the International Day of Women.
